Ketawa-Center for Behaviour Change Brings Laughter Yoga Event toPanjab University with Dr. Madan Kataria, Founder, Laughter Yoga Ketawa-Center for Behaviour Change, a wellness organization based in Chandigarh, joined hands with the National Social Service Unit at Panjab University to host a remarkable Laughter Yoga Event featuring the renowned 'Guru of Giggling,' Dr. Madan Kataria, Creator of Laughter Yoga and Founder of Laughter Yoga International. The event, graced by co-founder Mrs. Madhuri Kataria, witnessed an enthusiastic turnout of over 200 students and teachers from various disciplines.
Laughter filled the air as participants engaged in various laughter yoga exercises, followed by an energetic Bollywood laughter dance. Laughter yoga, a unique form of exercise pioneered by Dr. Madan Kataria, promotes laughter without any reason, combined with deep breathing to enhance oxygen flow to the brain. Scientific evidence suggests its numerous health benefits, including the significant reduction of cortisol hormone levels associated with stress. Dr. Madan Kataria, a trailblazer in the field, initiated the first laughter yoga club in Mumbai in 1995 with just 5 members, which has since burgeoned into a global phenomenon with over 16,000 laughter clubs across 120 countries. He has introduced laughter yoga as a curriculum in esteemed institutions like Stanford University and Michigan University, and is actively involved in research to study its effects on stress, self-esteem, and cognitive abilities among students. Dr. Nidhi Jaswal, Founder and CEO of Ketawa, emphasized the transformative power of laughter, stating, "Laughter does not need any condition to happen. If we laugh for at least 15 minutes daily, it can enhance cognitive ability, emotional stability, and resilience to fight stress and depression." The event was also attended by distinguished personalities including Prof. Praveen Goyal, Coordinator of NSS at Panjab University Chandigarh, Prof. Amit Chauhan, DSW (Men), Prof. Simrit Kahlon, and other NSS Coordinators, further highlighting its significance. This Laughter Yoga Event marks a significant step towards promoting holistic well-being and mental health awareness among students and educators. Ketawa and the NSS Unit at Panjab University remain committed to fostering a culture of positivity and laughter for a healthier community.
